God’s acceptance of 'Tainted Love'

God is a Holy God! He’s Supreme! He’s all Powerful, He’s Faithful, full of Kindness and Goodness, He’s Patient, Full of Grace and Mercy, full of Love, He’s Just and Righteous, Impartial, Incomprehensible, He’s Infinite, Jealous, Long suffering, Immutable, Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscient, He’s Self-existent, Self-sufficient, Transcendent, Eternal, Full of Truth, All Wise and His Wrath cannot be compared. God is a Spirit and He is Sovereign. There is no trace of anything defective or offensive in Him. Therefore those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (John 4:23).

1 Peter 1:15-16 says, But just as He who called you is Holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am Holy.”

God won’t even come near something that is tainted with evil. Something is tainted when it has even a trace of something bad, offensive, or harmful; when it is infected or contaminated, or if it’s dishonorable or has been discredited. Tainted is something that is corrupt, spoiled, or tarnished. It’s something that’s dirty or decayed, diseased, rotten or impure. It’s something that is bribable, crooked, foul, fraudulent, shady, untrustworthy, and unfaithful. This is totally opposite of Who God is. Sadly, this is what we see in most of the world today. This is what is offered to a Holy God. It’s tainted love.

How many times have we heard people say, “Well God understands, He just wants me to do my best; He knows my heart.” But, that contradicts what He said in His Word. Who should we believe? Man or God?

Romans 1:18-23 9 (NIV) says, The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.

For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.  Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.”
How does God feel about tainted, unholy love?  He tells us in 2 Cor. 6:17 and a multitude of other places,

“Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you”

If tainted love is something you’ve been offering to God, know that anything less than pure and holy He will not accept. He offers us nothing but the best and He accepts nothing less than wholehearted, faithfulness in return.

This is part 1 of a series on “Tainted Love.”
